Yes, if you treat it as a party night rather than a dinner out. I tell friends on their first trip the same thing: expect noise, a tourist crowd and food that is decent but not memorable. With that in mind, most people love it, and the best part costs nothing extra: the view from the deck.

This is what I noted on 04/11/2026, converted from the euro prices shown on the listings.

My sum for a couple: the best-reviewed private table comes to about £45 (₺3,038) for two, soft drinks included. Add a metered yellow taxi back to Sultanahmet, around 5 km and about ₺312 (£4.62) on the official tariff, and the whole evening stays under £50. New Year’s Eve costs at least £232 for two, over five times more, and the fireworks are what you pay for. Outside 31 December I would pick the £22 offer with thousands of reviews over a cheaper new listing nobody has tried yet.

Travelling from the UK: flights, time difference and paperwork
Direct flights from London take about 4 hours, and regional airports also have routes, so a long weekend leaves room for a cruise night without losing a day to travel. Check the schedule of your airline for your dates.
Turkey is on UTC+3 all year. Until the clocks change in March, Istanbul is 3 hours ahead of the UK; during British Summer Time (28 March to 31 October 2027) the gap is 2 hours. With the transfer, a minibus collects you from your hotel between 19:00 and 20:00, so be in the lobby at 19:00. Without it, go to the pier on your ticket, usually Kabataş, 30 minutes before departure. The pier can change in bad weather and the company tells you the same day, so keep your phone on.

What is the show like on board?
The show is a quick tour of Turkish folklore for an international crowd. It strings together four or five acts on a small central stage, and the volume rises as the night goes on.
- The whirling dervishes: a demonstration of the Sufi Sema ritual. On a boat it is a taster; for the full ceremony, go to Galata or Hodjapasha.
- Folk dances: Black Sea dances and the zeybek from the Aegean region, in regional costume.
- Belly dance (oryantal dansı): the most anticipated act, often with the audience pulled in.
- DJ and Latin numbers: party music near the end on the Mega Lüfer yachts, with a hint of flamenco.
What can you see from the boat at night?
The boat goes up the European shore as far as the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, turns, and comes back down the Asian side. The route is much the same for every company. Go up on deck as you pass under the Bosphorus Bridge: its cables change colour and Ortaköy Mosque glows just below.
- Dolmabahçe Palace, the sultans’ last residence, right next to Kabataş pier
- Çırağan Palace, now a hotel, and Ortaköy Mosque at the foot of the first bridge
- The Bosphorus Bridge (15 July Martyrs Bridge), then Rumeli Hisarı fortress
- The Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, where the boat turns
- Anadolu Hisarı and Beylerbeyi Palace on the Asian shore
- The Maiden’s Tower on its islet off Üsküdar, on the way back

How do you choose the right dinner cruise?
Not every boat is equal: on some you see the stage more than the Bosphorus. These are the five points I check before paying.
- The private table: without it you share a long table with strangers. Note that on Mega Lüfer a booking for one person ends up at a shared table.
- The seat: a window table or a table near the stage is a per-person supplement, ticked when you book. Otherwise the seat is assigned.
- The VIP lounge: on the Mega Lüfer yachts the main saloon holds 160 and the VIP saloons 100. The VIP option on the upper deck changes only the seat, not the menu: the VIP menu (ten Turkish and seafood starters, gratin prawns) is a separate option. Read both lines before paying.
- Drinks: the base package includes soft drinks, tea and Turkish coffee; unlimited alcohol is optional. Do the maths if you plan on a couple of glasses of rakı.
- Transfer and reviews: hotel pick-up is optional and saves the tram out, but the minibus stops at several hotels. A 4.8 rating from thousands of reviews reassures me more than a new £17 listing.
Local tip: if your trip falls on a UK bank holiday weekend, the May ones especially, or on a school half-term, book the cruise as soon as your flights are confirmed and read the listing’s cancellation terms. Those are the dates when most British visitors travel, and the private tables are the first to go.
Is the New Year’s Eve Bosphorus cruise worth it?
On 31 December the price jumps from £22 to at least £116 per person (₺7,820, checked on 04/11/2026), for a 5 hour evening with a gala dinner and the midnight fireworks seen from the middle of the Bosphorus. Other New Year listings showed £123 and £210 the same day. Window tables go first, so book from November.
To choose, compare the New Year’s Eve Bosphorus cruises and check three things: whether alcohol is included, the return time, and whether hotel drop-off is offered, because getting a taxi at 1:00 on 1 January is very hard.
My top itinerary for a dinner cruise evening on the Bosphorus
This is how I plan the day when I take friends, without the transfer, leaving from Kabataş.
- 15:30: Dolmabahçe Palace (closed on Mondays, ticket office open until 17:00, single ticket ₺2,000, or £29.61).
- 17:15: a tea by the water in Beşiktaş, then back to the hotel to change.
- 19:30: tram T1 or funicular F1 to Kabataş, with a jacket in the bag.
- 20:00: check in at the pier with the ticket and passport to hand.
- 20:30: the boat leaves; I go up on deck before sitting down, to see Dolmabahçe lit up from the water.
- 21:15: under the Bosphorus Bridge on the Ortaköy side, the hour for photos.
- 22:30: belly dance, then the DJ; I order the Uber around 23:45 as the boat nears the pier.
- 0:00: back at Kabataş, and off the pier before the crowd builds.

Taxi or Uber from Kabataş after midnight: how to avoid getting ripped off
The boat docks around midnight and every passenger steps off at once. Taxis queue in front of the pier, and that is where prices climb. On the meter, the official Istanbul tariff is ₺71.94 to start plus ₺47.92 per kilometre, with a minimum fare of ₺230 (£3.41).
Ten to one at the Kabataş rank, and a driver quotes me £25 in cash to Galata, about 3 km, because “after midnight there is a night rate”. On the meter that trip is the ₺230 minimum, around £3.41.

The price of an Uber ride is shown in advance. Ride and driver are recorded in the app, you pay by card, and there is zero haggling.
Kevin’s tip: I save my hotel as a favourite on the plane, and at the pier I only walk to the car whose plate matches the app, so the price is settled before I get in.
One more trap on the way out: pickpockets work the crowd on the gangway. Keep your phone in an inside pocket until you are clear of the pier.
Internet on the night for tickets, Maps and Uber
On cruise night your phone works from 19:00: the minibus driver often messages you on WhatsApp, the pier can change in bad weather, and you need it to call the car at the end.
Your e-ticket QR code, the Kabataş pier on Google Maps and the Uber home all need data, and your UK network will bill you for it in Turkey.

What are the alternatives to a dinner cruise?
If the party atmosphere does not appeal, take the public Şehir Hatları Bosphorus tour by day: ₺640 (£9.47) return at the foreign visitor rate as far as Anadolu Kavağı, leaving Eminönü at 10:35 in winter. Then eat fish in Karaköy or on a Galata rooftop, with a calmer view and better food.
